37th Annual Conference Report

President's Report

T&LC President, Bob Hochwarth, Volvo Logistics North America

As Charles Darwin stated…"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change."

One of the best ways to adapt to change and excel is through education and experience.  I don’t know any other professional organization in our industry that offers a better place to learn through the latest up-to-date educational workshops, seminars, conferences, and content via our newsletters and website than the Council.

Our 37th Annual Conference in St. Louis was a great success with attendance up 35% from two years ago and we hope to see this trend continue in 2012 at our next conference in Orlando (April 23 – 25th, 2012).  Much of this success is due to the hard work from TLC staff, officers, and Board of Directors that spent months in preparing and organizing for this annual event.  I especially want to thank the moderators, panelists, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors, along with our partners from the TLP&SA and the CCPAC for their participation and support in making this conference a success.

This year’s conference covered a number of current events impacting our industry such as the CSA 2010, HOS rules, insurance, liability, driver shortages, security, risk, insurance, claims, global economy/trade, Customs, C-TPAT, cargo theft, intermediaries, international shipping, and more.  And if that wasn’t enough to learn, the Council held three great seminars on contracting, freight claims, and transportation law.

Every good conference needs good speakers.  We were very fortunate to have Don Brown, Executive VP Finance and Administration FedEx Freight and Tommy Hodges, Chairman of Titan Transfer Inc. and former Chairman of the American Trucking Association share their in-depth knowledge of the industry and current events impacting our industry today and what they see on the horizon so we can be better prepared and adapt to the changes coming our way.

Take a look at some of the photos of highlights of the Conference (below).
